{"id":148132,"date":"2026-07-27T17:02:48","date_gmt":"2026-07-27T17:02:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/government-approves-rwanda-fuel-transit-deal-through-mombasa\/"},"modified":"2026-07-27T17:02:48","modified_gmt":"2026-07-27T17:02:48","slug":"government-approves-rwanda-fuel-transit-deal-through-mombasa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/government-approves-rwanda-fuel-transit-deal-through-mombasa\/","title":{"rendered":"Government Approves Rwanda Fuel Transit Deal Through Mombasa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>NAIROBI, Kenya, July 27 \u2013 The government has approved a deal allowing Rwanda to import up to 40,000 metric tonnes of fuel through the Port of Mombasa and the country\u2019s pipeline network, in a move expected to strengthen Kenya\u2019s position as East Africa\u2019s main petroleum transit hub.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Musalia Mudavadi announced the Cabinet decision after holding bilateral talks with Rwanda\u2019s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Olivier Jean Patrick Nduhungirehe, in Nairobi.<\/p>\n<p>Mudavadi said the approval highlights  Kenya\u2019s commitment to enhancing regional trade and economic integration.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Kenyan Cabinet has approved the movement of about 40,000 metric tonnes of fuel to Rwanda through our pipeline from Mombasa. We are committed to ensuring deeper economic cooperation with our neighbours,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The agreement will see Rwanda, a landlocked country, channel a significant portion of its fuel imports through the Port of Mombasa before the products are transported via Kenya\u2019s petroleum pipeline infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>Rwandan Foreign Affairs Minister Olivier Nduhungirehe welcomed the arrangement, saying it would enhance the country\u2019s energy security and guarantee a stable fuel supply.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat will be about 52 million litres, which is roughly our country\u2019s monthly fuel consumption. It will serve us well,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The deal is expected to reinforce Kenya\u2019s role as the region\u2019s preferred logistics and energy transit corridor while supporting Rwanda\u2019s growing demand for petroleum products.<\/p>\n<p>Mudavadi said the Cabinet\u2019s approval reflected Kenya\u2019s commitment to promoting regional integration and shared prosperity through improved cross-border infrastructure and trade.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond the fuel agreement, Mudavadi said he sought Rwanda\u2019s support for Kenya\u2019s candidates seeking election to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and the International Criminal Court (ICC).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKenya remains committed to strengthening regional partnerships and advancing Africa\u2019s voice in international institutions,\u201d he said.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NAIROBI, Kenya, July 27 \u2013 The government has approved a deal allowing Rwanda to import up to 40,000 metric tonnes of fuel through the Port of Mombasa and the country\u2019s pipeline network, in a move expected to strengthen Kenya\u2019s position as East Africa\u2019s main petroleum transit hub.
