{"id":148864,"date":"2026-08-04T09:02:52","date_gmt":"2026-08-04T09:02:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/ghanas-rice-production-project-receives-18-8m-funding\/"},"modified":"2026-08-04T09:02:52","modified_gmt":"2026-08-04T09:02:52","slug":"ghanas-rice-production-project-receives-18-8m-funding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/ghanas-rice-production-project-receives-18-8m-funding\/","title":{"rendered":"Ghana\u2019s rice production project receives $18.8M funding"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Ghana has secured a total of $18.8 million (Ksh 2.4b) from the African Development Bank (AfDB) to boost its local rice production.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The grant which will be utilised under the Regional West Africa Resilient Rice Value Chains (REWARD) Project is also expected to help the West African nation strengthen food security, and create jobs across the agricultural value chain.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis project will help strengthen Ghana\u2019s rice value chain by increasing productivity, improving market access, and supporting agribusiness development,\u201d said Halima Hashi Country Manager, Ghana Country Office, AfDB.<\/p>\n<p>Official data puts Ghana\u2019s annual rice production capacity at 600,000 tonnes against a consumption requirement of 1.3 million tonnes forcing the country to import the deficit.<\/p>\n<p>The bank says the grant will help increase rice productivity, improve market systems, and reduce Ghana\u2019s dependence on rice imports, while enhancing the competitiveness of locally produced rice.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy investing in climate-resilient agriculture, the initiative will contribute to food security, job creation, and more inclusive economic growth,\u201d added Hashi.<\/p>\n<p>Ghana will also use the funds support the modernisation of rice processing facilities, strengthen market linkages, and promote greater private sector participation across the rice value chain.<\/p>\n<p>The post <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kbc.co.ke\/ghanas-rice-production-project-receives-18-8m-funding\/\">Ghana\u2019s rice production project receives $18.8M funding<\/a> appeared first on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kbc.co.ke\/\">KBC Digital<\/a>.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ghana has secured a total of $18.8 million (Ksh 2.4b) from the African Development Bank (AfDB) to boost its local rice production.
