NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 1 \u2013 The father of slain businesswoman Monica Kimani, Bishop Paul Ngarama, now says he will visit Joseph Kimani alias Jowie<\/strong> who was convicted and sentenced for her murder in prison. <\/strong><\/p>\n

According to bishop Ngarama, this will be a sign of forgiveness and reconciliation on his part.<\/p>\n

Ngarama stated that since 2018, his family has faced emotional turmoil and that the journey of true healing will only be attained through forgiveness and reconciliation.<\/p>\n

In an interview with Kenya Diaspora Media in Washington, Kimani\u2019s father urged Jowie to seek forgiveness saying he\u2019s ready to finally bury the hatchet on the matter.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to appeal to Jowie to come up, he knows he needs forgiveness for me. I am ready to forgive him. If one day I will go to Kenya, I can visit him in prison,\u201d he stated. <\/p>\n

\u201cI can say my son, let\u2019s forget the past and focus on the future because things happen and we know God has a purpose for all of us.\u201d <\/p>\n

Lady Justice Grace Nzioka found Jowie guilty of the murder of Kimani, who was brutally killed on the night of September 19, 2018, at her Lamuria Gardens apartment in Nairobi.<\/p>\n

Bishop Ngarama promised to spearhead reconciliation between the three families that have been drugged in the murder case for the last six years.<\/p>\n

He insisted there\u2019s need for forgiveness between his family, Jowie\u2019s family and the co-accused who was acquitted Jackie Maribe\u2019s family as a sign of closure on the issue that has caused them anguish.<\/p>\n

He said that forgiving Jowie even before the court sentenced him to life imprisonment has enabled him to start his healing journey adding that God guided him to chart the path of forgiveness.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s important to bring the three families together and to seek for forgiveness despite what happened because one day Jowie might come out from jail even though he was sentenced to death,\u201d Ngarama stated.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe can talk together; to say let this issue rest because we don\u2019t know about the matter. We need healing the most,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Kimani\u2019s father is currently in the Full Bright Theological Seminary pursuing his PHD in counselling psychology which he is expected to finalize next year.<\/p>\n

He urged the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution not to prefer charges on Maribe for falsifying evidence while recording her earlier statements on how Jowie sustained a gunshot wound.<\/p>\n

Maribe, who was charged alongside Irungu, was acquitted of the murder charge, with the judge stating that the count of murder was not the proper charge that the prosecution would have preferred against her.<\/p>\n

The judge however pointed out that Maribe had been found to have given contradicting information , terming the offence as giving misleading information to a public servant.<\/p>\n

Jowie was sentenced to death after he was found guilty of the 2018 murder of businesswoman Monica Kimani.<\/p>\n

Delivering the verdict on Wednesday, High Court judge Grace Nzioka ruled that the horrific murder of Monica Kimani was \u201cintentional.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was not a defensive act. It was not out of provocation. It was planned, intended and executed,\u201d ruled Justice Nzioka.<\/p>\n

Justice Nzioka highlighted that in addition to life imprisonment and jail terms, the death penalty remains a legal recourse for serious offences.<\/p>\n

But, while ruling out the life imprisonment and a fixed jail sentence, Nzioka referenced a court precedent indicating that life imprisonment equates to 30 years, considering remission.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
