{"id":21558,"date":"2024-04-02T15:04:07","date_gmt":"2024-04-02T15:04:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/index.php\/2024\/04\/02\/stop-or-face-the-full-force-of-the-law-ig-koomes-warning-to-bandits\/"},"modified":"2024-04-02T15:04:07","modified_gmt":"2024-04-02T15:04:07","slug":"stop-or-face-the-full-force-of-the-law-ig-koomes-warning-to-bandits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/stop-or-face-the-full-force-of-the-law-ig-koomes-warning-to-bandits\/","title":{"rendered":"Stop or face the full force of the law; IG Koome\u2019s warning to bandits"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 2-<\/strong> Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome has issued a stern warning to bandits operating in the North Rift region, as the area grapples with a surge in criminal activities. <\/p>\n<p>Koome\u2019s remarks came Tuesday during a comprehensive security assessment tour of Baringo County, where he addressed concerns over the escalating threat posed by criminal elements.<\/p>\n<p>He emphasized the government\u2019s unwavering commitment to cracking down on lawlessness and restoring peace in the region. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet me be unequivocal: whether these attacks stem from inter-community conflicts, collaboration among criminal groups, or targeted assaults on security personnel, the message to the perpetrators is clear \u2013 cease your activities or face the full brunt of the law,\u201d he declared during the visit that followed criticism from lawmakers who accused him of failing to manage the crisis.<\/p>\n<p>The warning follows a series of violent incidents in several counties, including Baringo, Isiolo, Samburu, and Meru, which have left communities devastated and resulted in loss of lives and property. <\/p>\n<p>Of particular concern are recent attacks in Saimo Soi Ward, Baringo County, and Morijo in Samburu Central Sub County, which have led to the displacement of residents and forced the closure of educational institutions.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to rampant banditry, cattle rustlers have intensified their assaults on ranches and conservancies in Isiolo and Meru counties, exacerbating the security crisis in the region. <\/p>\n<p>Despite the government\u2019s designation of six counties \u2013 Turkana, West Pokot, Elgeyo Marakwet, Baringo, Laikipia, and Samburu \u2013 as \u201cdisturbed\u201d areas, criminal elements have continued to operate with impunity, posing a grave threat to the safety and well-being of citizens.<\/p>\n<p>To address the escalating security challenges, Koome revealed that the government has established a multi-agency command center for Isiolo, Meru, Laikipia, and Samburu, in addition to the existing Chemolingot Multi-Agency Operation Centre. <\/p>\n<p>He said additional resources, including sophisticated equipment and Formed Police Units, have been deployed to affected areas as part of Operation Maliza Uhalifu North Rift.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the daunting task ahead, Koome commended security personnel for their dedication and patriotism, urging them to uphold their constitutional mandate impartially and without fear. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe applaud our security forces for their unwavering commitment to duty,\u201d he stated. \u201cThey must continue to discharge their responsibilities with integrity and professionalism.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The IG has urged locals to collaborate with law enforcement agencies in the fight against banditry and criminality. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe support and cooperation of the public are essential in our efforts to root out these criminal elements,\u201d he emphasized, \u201cTogether, we can restore peace and security to our communities and safeguard the future of our nation.\u201d<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 2- Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome has issued a stern warning to bandits operating in the North Rift region, as the area grapples with a surge in criminal activities.
