{"id":22354,"date":"2024-04-04T10:03:42","date_gmt":"2024-04-04T10:03:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/index.php\/2024\/04\/04\/jsc-interviews-for-recruitment-of-judges-enter-second-day\/"},"modified":"2024-04-04T10:03:42","modified_gmt":"2024-04-04T10:03:42","slug":"jsc-interviews-for-recruitment-of-judges-enter-second-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/jsc-interviews-for-recruitment-of-judges-enter-second-day\/","title":{"rendered":"JSC interviews for recruitment of judges enter second day"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"cvwp-video-player\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.capitalfm.co.ke\/news\/#\" class=\"cvwp-load-video\" title=\"JSC interviews for recruitment of judges enter second day\"><\/a><\/div>\n<p><strong>NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 4 \u2014 Interviews for recruitment of additional High Court judges entered the second day on Thursday with six candidates lined up to face an 11-member panel.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Those scheduled to appear before the Judicial Service Commission included Chief Magistrates Barbara Achieng and Muthoni Kimemia (Chairperson, Cooperatives Tribunal).<\/p>\n<p>Lawyers Andrew Mwamute, Dr Wanjala KhaKula, Beatrice Munialo, and Bernard Ochieng\u2019 were also expected before the panel.<\/p>\n<p>The Commission commenced interviews for 100 shortlisted candidates as it seeks to enlist twenty High Court judges on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>The panel, chaired by Chief Justice Martha Koome, interviewed Senior Director in the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) Alexander Muteti\u00a0and Chief Magistrates Alex Ithuku and Alfred Gethi.<\/p>\n<p>It also interviewed lawyers Adelaide Amimo, Agnes Njoroge, and Chepngetich Soi.<\/p>\n<p>During his turn before the Commission, Muteti denied claims that he was an alcoholic terming a memorandum concerning the allegation as malicious.<\/p>\n<p>Muteti was responding to a memorandum by lawyer Nelson Havi.<\/p>\n<p>He told JSC that he had long quit alcohol.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI used to take alcohol but I am surprised my good friend (Havi) I stopped taking alcohol a year ago,\u201d Muteti told the panel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe (Havi) himself takes alcohol as a matter of public record,\u201d the senior prosecutor added.<\/p>\n<p>Muteti also pleaded with the JSC to protect him from discrimination on account of his official functions explaining that decisions by the ODPP are bound to infuriate accused persons.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cODPP decisions cause pain.
