Three governors in the North Rift have agreed to have all livestock branded in a fresh move to help tame runway banditry affecting the region.<\/p>\n
Governors Simon Kachapin \u2013 West Pokot, Benjamin Cheboi \u2013 Baringo and Wesley Rotich \u2013 Elgeyo Marakwet resolved after a joint meeting in Iten town to review progress on the war on banditry.<\/p>\n
The county heads resolved to prohibit the sale and movement of animals in the wards which are extensively affected by the banditry problem.<\/p>\n
The three have tasked respective executives and other technical staff from the livestock and veterinary departments to come out with plans on how the branding of livestock will be implemented.<\/p>\n
Governor Kachapin said they will work with the national government to ensure they stop the movement of all livestock that is not branded.<\/p>\n
The governors have already put in place a committee chaired by Elgeyo Marakwet Deputy Governor Grace Cheserek, to help ensure that the branding will be done successfully.<\/p>\n
A Kenya Defence Forces-led security operation has been going on in affected counties.<\/p>\n
