Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has declared Wednesday, April 10 a national public holiday to mark Idd ul-Fitr.<\/p>\n
Kindiki made the announcement in a Gazette Notice dated April 9, 2023.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is notified for the general information of the public that in exercise of the powers conferred by section 2 (1) of the Public Holidays Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration declares that Wednesday, the 10th April 2023, shall be a public holiday to mark Idd ul-Fitr,\u201d- Kindiki said in the Gazette Notice.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s Idd-ul-Fitr ?<\/p>\n
It\u2019s an Islamic holiday marking the end of Ramadan, the month when devout Muslims fast daily from dawn to sunset. Ramadan is a time of increased worship, charity, and good deeds.<\/p>\n
Idd-ul-Fitr means the feast, or festival, of breaking the fast.<\/p>\n
Islam follows a lunar calendar and so Ramadan and Idd cycle through the seasons.<\/p>\n
This year, the first day of Idd-ul-Fitr is expected to be on or around April 10; the exact date may vary among countries and Muslim communities.<\/p>\n
