Six men have been arrested in connection with the killing of South African footballer Luke Fleurs.<\/p>\n
The 24-year-old Kaizer Chiefs star was\u00a0shot dead in a car-jacking at a petrol station<\/a>\u00a0in Johannesburg last week.<\/p>\n In a statement, police said that the six suspects were arrested in Soweto on Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n The police say they believe the \u201csuspects are part of a syndicate that is responsible for car hijackings\u201d in the Gauteng province.<\/p>\n Investigators are still actively searching for more suspects.<\/p>\n Officers said they had recovered the footballer\u2019s car \u2013 which had been stripped \u2013 on Monday.<\/p>\n Mr Fleurs was waiting to be attended to at the petrol station when he was approached by unknown gunmen, who ordered him to get out of the vehicle, authorities say.<\/p>\n The police said one of the suspects then shot him once on the upper body.<\/p>\n Kaizer Chiefs, one of South Africa\u2019s most popular clubs and 12-time league champions, described his death as \u201ctragic\u201d.<\/p>\n Mr Fleurs joined Kaizer Chiefs last year, having previously played for SuperSport United.<\/p>\n The former Under-23 international represented South Africa at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.<\/p>\n Sports Minister Zizi Kodwa said he was \u201csaddened that yet another life has been cut short due to violent crime\u201d.<\/p>\n The suspects are expected to appear in court on Friday.<\/p>\n The post Six arrested over killing of South African footballer<\/a> first appeared on KBC<\/a>.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Six men have been arrested in connection with the killing of South African footballer Luke Fleurs.
