NAIROBI, Kenya Apr 14 \u2013 President William Ruto has emphasized his administration\u2019s dedication to making decisions based on long-term benefits rather than short-term popularity. <\/p>\n
Speaking on Sunday at St. Peter\u2019s ACK in Nyeri during the retirement service of Mt. Kenya West ACK Bishop Joseph Kagunda, Ruto highlighted the importance of leadership over popularity.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn our country, there\u2019s a tendency for leaders to prioritize decisions that make them popular. In my administration, we will continue to make tough decisions that will yield positive results in the future, even if they are initially unpopular. We were elected to lead, not to seek popularity,\u201d Ruto stated.<\/p>\n
He pointed to past decisions, such as removing subsidies on petrol and maize flour, which faced public backlash but ultimately led to price reductions. <\/p>\n
\u201cWhen we removed subsidies on these commodities, we faced criticism, but now Kenyans are benefiting from lower prices. This illustrates the value of making difficult decisions for the greater good,\u201d Ruto explained.<\/p>\n
Accompanied by Deputy Rigathi Gachagua and other top officials, Ruto reaffirmed his government\u2019s commitment to tackling issues like fertilizer scams, promising strict legal action against offenders. <\/p>\n
\u201cThose involved in these corrupt practices will face the full force of the law. We will not allow them to undermine our efforts to feed the nation,\u201d he declared.<\/p>\n
Gachagua echoed Ruto\u2019s sentiments, emphasizing the importance of combating illicit brews despite opposition from some traders. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe cannot allow our children\u2019s future to be jeopardized by these harmful substances. We will continue to crackdown on those who endanger public health,\u201d Gachagua asserted.<\/p>\n
Additionally, Gachagua urged individuals contesting the replacement of Bishop Kagunda to withdraw their cases, emphasizing the clarity of the church constitution.<\/p>\n
