{"id":26858,"date":"2024-04-14T15:03:48","date_gmt":"2024-04-14T15:03:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/index.php\/2024\/04\/14\/kmpdu-lobby-groups-threaten-to-sue-ig-koome-over-doctors-strike\/"},"modified":"2024-04-14T15:03:48","modified_gmt":"2024-04-14T15:03:48","slug":"kmpdu-lobby-groups-threaten-to-sue-ig-koome-over-doctors-strike","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/kmpdu-lobby-groups-threaten-to-sue-ig-koome-over-doctors-strike\/","title":{"rendered":"KMPDU, lobby groups threaten to sue IG Koome over doctors\u2019 strike"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"td-paragraph-padding-1\">\n<p><strong>Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union (KMPDU) together with a number of lobby groups are now threatening to sue Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome over the ongoing doctors\u2019 strike.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The organizations have demanded an apology from the IG following his directive to police to deal with the striking medics \u201cfirmly and decisively for becoming a public nuisance and posing a threat to public safety and security.<\/p>\n<p>In a Demand letter signed by\u00a0<span>lawyer Ochiel Dudley,\u00a0<\/span><span>KMPDU<\/span>, Law Society of Kenya, Katiba Institute, The Institute for Social Accountability, Kenya Human Rights Commission, International Commission of Jurists (ICJ), and Africa Centre of Open Governance among others, have vowed to sue the IG for\u00a0issuing the directive.<\/p>\n<p>The groups argue that the directive by the IG was unconstitutional.<\/p>\n<p>The group further demanded that Koome retract his directive\u00a0<span>and issue a public apology latest by 6:00 pm Sunday or he will be held personally liable for harm caused by the police to the striking and picketing medics.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Koome had ealier\u00a0<span>ordered County Police Commanders to \u201cdeal firmly and decisively\u201d with doctors and clinical officers engaging in street demonstrations in various parts of the country.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In a statement, Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome lamented that the doctors and clinical officers have become a public nuisance.<\/p>\n<p>The police directive came as the doctor\u2019s strike enters its 5th week, eliciting varied reactions from Kenyans.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The post <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kbc.co.ke\/kmpdu-lobby-groups-threaten-to-sue-ig-koome-over-doctors-strike\/\">KMPDU, lobby groups threaten to sue IG Koome over doctors\u2019 strike<\/a> first appeared on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kbc.co.ke\/\">KBC<\/a>.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union (KMPDU) together with a number of lobby groups are now threatening to sue Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome over the ongoing doctors\u2019 strike.
