{"id":27657,"date":"2024-04-16T09:03:13","date_gmt":"2024-04-16T09:03:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/index.php\/2024\/04\/16\/chipu-squad-named-ahead-of-barthes-trophy-in-zimbabwe\/"},"modified":"2024-04-16T09:03:13","modified_gmt":"2024-04-16T09:03:13","slug":"chipu-squad-named-ahead-of-barthes-trophy-in-zimbabwe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/chipu-squad-named-ahead-of-barthes-trophy-in-zimbabwe\/","title":{"rendered":"Chipu squad named ahead of Barthes Trophy in Zimbabwe"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><strong><span class=\"s1\">The national Under 20 rugby team \u2018Chipu\u2019 squad\u00a0 has been named ahead of their participation in this years Africa U20 Barthes Trophy scheduled April 20-28th in Harare,Zimbabwe.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Head Coach Simon Jawichre has named the 28 man squad that will be captained byEdmond Omondi .<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The team has<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>has nine returning players from the squad that did duty at the World Rugby U20 Trophy held last July in Nairobi namely Geylord Ngasi, Andycole Omolo, Iddo Kuta, Wycliffe Ogutu, Nathan Tsindoli, Patrick Wainaina, Faran Juma , Michael Wamalwa and James Olela.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Also making the cut are Alvin Khavoli and Philip Okeyo, who have been standout performers in the Kenya Cup for their club sides Menengai Oilers and Nakuru.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">This year\u2019s tournament features four teams led by hosts Zimbabwe, last year\u2019s runners up Kenya, Namibia and Tunisia. The teams will battle it out in a round robin competition over three match days with the team finishing first winning the title and securing Africa\u2019s berth to the World Rugby U20 Trophy 2024 set for 2-17 July in Scotland.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The team departs on Thursday morning and start their campaign against Namibia on Saturday 20 April before taking on Tunisia on Wednesday 24\u00a0April 2024.
