{"id":27678,"date":"2024-04-16T10:04:09","date_gmt":"2024-04-16T10:04:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/index.php\/2024\/04\/16\/governor-wanga-urges-boda-boda-riders-to-pay-revenue-through-registered-groups\/"},"modified":"2024-04-16T10:04:09","modified_gmt":"2024-04-16T10:04:09","slug":"governor-wanga-urges-boda-boda-riders-to-pay-revenue-through-registered-groups","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/governor-wanga-urges-boda-boda-riders-to-pay-revenue-through-registered-groups\/","title":{"rendered":"Governor Wanga urges boda boda riders to pay revenue through registered groups"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>In an effort to curb pilferage of revenues, Governor Gladys Wanga has told boda boda operators to pay revenues through their registered groups or Saccos.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The governor told the riders that\u00a0it would also be easier for the riders to pay revenue as a team than individually.<\/p>\n<p>She said once the registered group or Saccos received the revenue from a rider, he will be issued with a sticker.<\/p>\n<p>Wanga urged the Boda boda riders to join groups and register as savings and credit cooperative societies (Saccos) to enable them access loans.<\/p>\n<p>She said that the registered groups will enable effective regulation of their\u00a0operations.<\/p>\n<p>The Governor urged those who have not registered in any group to come together and form their own.<\/p>\n<p>She said members will be able to deposit their savings in the saccos alongside the county government revenues.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking Monday during the official launch of East Kamagak boda boda combined cooperative society in Kasipul constituency, Wanga said her administration was committed to curbing pilferage of revenues.<\/p>\n<p>She was accompanied by of her Deputy Oyugi Magwanga, Kwame Otiende Foundation Director Kwame Otiende and God Will Provide Organisation Director Newton Ogada.<\/p>\n<p>The Governor said her administration has introduced digital revenue collection system in a bid to seal all corruption loopholes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are over 58,000 boda boda riders in the county and they generate substantial revenue to the county government,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Magwanga said boda boda is among the sectors with a high potential of\u00a0generating more revenue if regulated well.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want motorcycle riders to invest in saccos for their prosperity through accessing development loans\u00a0 and dividends on their savings,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>On his part, Otiende said he provided the boda boda riders with reflector jackets, helmets, deposited in their bank accounts over Ksh120,000 and supported training to secure licenses.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that boda boda is the biggest employer in Homa Bay and investing in them will enhance the county\u2019s economic transformation.<\/p>\n<p>Otiende urged boda boda riders to engage in other business activities like poultry keeping and crop production to increase their sources of income.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe believe that through saccos, banking institutions will be able to offer them loans and reinvest in other business ventures for growth,\u201d Otiende said.<\/p>\n<p>Ogada said his organisation has paid annual NHIF premium for more than 200 boda boda riders.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy organisation is also supporting the education of the less fortunate children and building their families\u2019 houses.
