NAIROBI, Kenya Apr 21 \u2013 Thousands of residents solemnly lined the streets as the hearse carrying the body of General Francis Ogolla embarked on its final journey from Kisumu airport to Obama K\u2019Ogello Primary School. <\/p>\n
General Ogolla, the Chief Defence Forces (CDF), lost his life in a helicopter crash on April 18, alongside nine other officers in Elgeyo Marakwet.<\/p>\n
His body was airlifted by the military from Nairobi to Kisumu airport and then conveyed by road to his Ngi\u2019ya Village, Siaya County.<\/p>\n
Paying their respects, residents stood along the route as the hearse, accompanied by a military convoy, made its way to the burial site. <\/p>\n
In accordance with General Ogolla\u2019s wishes, his modest funeral will see him laid to rest without a coffin, adorned only in a piece of cloth.<\/p>\n
President William Ruto, the Commander-In-Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) was at hand to receive the body at Obama K\u2019Ogello Primary School. <\/p>\n
As a tribute to General Ogolla\u2019s distinguished service and leadership, he will receive a solemn 19-gun salute.<\/p>\n
Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo has outlined the arrangements for the burial service, which is expected to conclude by 1 pm. <\/p>\n
Following the service, a Procession Parade will proceed to the Mor Village, Siaya County gravesite.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have made arrangements to accommodate over 4,000 people in the venues. We have provisioned seating for 2,000 people under tents, and anticipate an additional 2,000-3,000 attendees outside the tents. Monitor screens will be set up at various locations for remote viewing,\u201d stated PS Omollo.<\/p>\n
Access to General Ogolla\u2019s gravesite will be restricted to immediate family members and top officials.<\/p>\n
\u201cAfter the service, only select individuals, including close family members and colleagues who worked closely with General Ogolla in the military and government, will be permitted to proceed to the gravesite,\u201d PS Omollo affirmed.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
