NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 26 \u2013<\/strong> The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued an advisory for heavy rain to be expected over the next two days<\/strong><\/p>\n

In the advisory released on Thursday, Director of Metrological Services David Gikungu warned of heavy rainfall of over 40mm to be expected in several parts of the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cHeavy rainfall is to be expected in Lake Victoria Basin, Rift Valley, Highlands, West and East of the Rift Valley including Nairobi area, Southeast Lowlands and off coast,\u201c he stated<\/p>\n

The weatherman forecasted that the rain would be heavy on Friday and Saturday and gradually decline afterwards.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe rainfall is set to intensify to more than 50mm on 26th to 27th April and is likely to reduce in intensity on 28th,\u201d he said<\/p>\n

The advisory also mentioned other areas of concern including Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang\u2019a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu,Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo<\/p>\n

The public is advised to look out for potential floods, flash floods and poor visibility on the roads<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople living downstream rivers and along seasonal rivers should be careful since the water may appear suddenly even though it may not be raining in the area,\u201d he stated<\/p>\n

In addition, people in landslide prone areas especially Aberdare ranges, Mt Kenya, Western and other hilly areas have been asked to be vigilant<\/p>\n

Kenyans have been urged to avoid driving through or walking in moving water or open fields, sheltering under trees and near trees to minimize exposure to lightning<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
