{"id":36330,"date":"2024-05-06T14:03:11","date_gmt":"2024-05-06T14:03:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/index.php\/2024\/05\/06\/ncpb-md-kimote-suspended-over-fake-fertilizer-scandal\/"},"modified":"2024-05-06T14:03:11","modified_gmt":"2024-05-06T14:03:11","slug":"ncpb-md-kimote-suspended-over-fake-fertilizer-scandal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/ncpb-md-kimote-suspended-over-fake-fertilizer-scandal\/","title":{"rendered":"NCPB MD Kimote suspended over fake fertilizer scandal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>NAIROBI, Kenya, May 6 \u2013 The National Cereals and Produce Board has suspended\u00a0Joseph Kimote as MD and replaced him with Samuel Karogo in an acting capacity.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The board\u2019s chairman\u00a0Samuel\u00a0Ragwa\u00a0confirmed\u00a0to Capital FM News that the decision to suspend the\u00a0MD and other officials\u00a0who were\u00a0involved in the scam was made\u00a0today.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWork must continue\u00a0and\u00a0that is why we made the decision.\u00a0So we have replaced John Kimote with Samuel Karogo\u00a0who\u00a0was the\u00a0General Finance manager\u00a0as\u00a0the acting MD,\u201d\u00a0he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This\u00a0comes days after Kimote,\u00a0along with\u00a0Corporate Secretary John Kiplangat\u00a0Ngetich,\u00a0and General Marketing Manager John Mbaya\u00a0Matiri\u00a0were arrested\u00a0on Wednesday after the Director of Public\u00a0Prosecution approved charges against them. <\/p>\n<p>Detectives, acting on the directive of the DPP, swiftly moved to arrest the officials for their alleged roles in the fertilizer fraud that led to an impeachment motion against Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi.<\/p>\n<p>Investigations led by\u00a0detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI)\u00a0headquarters,\u00a0also led to the\u00a0questioning\u00a0of\u00a0officials from government agencies responsible for handling the fake fertilizer, including the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) and suppliers.<\/p>\n<p>In March, the Ministry of Agriculture advised farmers who had purchased the counterfeit fertilizer to cease its use immediately and seek guidance from NCPB facilities.<\/p>\n<p>The ministry also announced that KEBS had initiated legal action against the manufacturer.<\/p>\n<p>In response to the scandal, the Ministry of Agriculture directed NCPB to recall all substandard fertilizers distributed to farmers as part of an escalating probe into the matter.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NAIROBI, Kenya, May 6 \u2013 The National Cereals and Produce Board has suspended\u00a0Joseph Kimote as MD and replaced him with Samuel Karogo in an acting capacity.
