{"id":36352,"date":"2024-05-06T15:03:08","date_gmt":"2024-05-06T15:03:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/index.php\/2024\/05\/06\/kenya-declares-war-on-terrorists-and-their-sympathizers\/"},"modified":"2024-05-06T15:03:08","modified_gmt":"2024-05-06T15:03:08","slug":"kenya-declares-war-on-terrorists-and-their-sympathizers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/kenya-declares-war-on-terrorists-and-their-sympathizers\/","title":{"rendered":"Kenya Declares War on Terrorists and Their Sympathizers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>NAIROBI, Kenya, May 6 \u2013<\/strong>The government\u2019s unwavering commitment to combating terrorism remains steadfast, with a particular focus on identifying and neutralizing individuals who support terrorist activities financially.<\/p>\n<p>Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki, spearheading the efforts through the Counter-Terrorism Financing Inter-Ministerial Committee, affirmed the government\u2019s stance. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are actively tracking terrorist sympathizers and collaborators who finance the enemy\u2019s operations through illicit financial flows,\u201d he said Monday after chairing the Counter-Terrorism Financing Inter-Ministerial Committee meeting attended by his Cabinet Colleagues led by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, Treasury\u2019s Prof Njuguna Ndung\u2019u and others.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting unveiled new measures aimed at countering these threats. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese collaborators have been adopting new methods to fund terrorist groups, posing a significant challenge,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n<p>Kindiki stressed the importance of these measures in disrupting the underground economy and thwarting money laundering schemes that bolster terrorism. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur renewed efforts align with Kenya\u2019s commitment to international obligations under the Prevention of Terrorism Act and various UN Security Council resolutions,\u201d he stressed..<\/p>\n<p>Kenya has faced numerous security challenges posed by Al Shabaab terrorists who have staged attacks in the capital Nairobi, border towns of Mandera and the coastal region, particularly Lamu and Mombasa.<\/p>\n<p>The attacks were intensified since 2011 when Kenya sent its troops to fight Al Shabaab terrorists inside Somalia.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NAIROBI, Kenya, May 6 \u2013The government\u2019s unwavering commitment to combating terrorism remains steadfast, with a particular focus on identifying and neutralizing individuals who support terrorist activities financially.
