{"id":41094,"date":"2024-05-17T10:03:06","date_gmt":"2024-05-17T10:03:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/index.php\/2024\/05\/17\/rutos-state-visit-to-the-us-affirms-shared-values-singoei\/"},"modified":"2024-05-17T10:03:06","modified_gmt":"2024-05-17T10:03:06","slug":"rutos-state-visit-to-the-us-affirms-shared-values-singoei","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/rutos-state-visit-to-the-us-affirms-shared-values-singoei\/","title":{"rendered":"Ruto\u2019s State Visit to the US affirms shared values: Sing\u2019Oei"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>NAIROBI, Kenya, May 17 \u2014 Kenya\u2019s Foreign Office has described President William Ruto\u2019s impending State Visit to the United States as an affirmation of the solid ties between the two nations.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Korir Sing\u2019Oei told Capital News on Friday the White House visit on May 23, at the invitation of President Joe Biden, highlights Kenya\u2019s central role as a strategic partner and key voice in the region.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt recognizes that Kenya is a solid partner of the United States,\u201d Sing\u2019Oei explained during an appearance on<em> Capital In The Morning<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Sing\u2019Oei who served as Ruto\u2019s Legal Advisor during his term as Deputy President before his elevation to the Foreign Office in December 2022 singled out Kenya\u2019s democratic credentials which he noted align with values espoused by the United States.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve had sixty years of reliable consistent engagement between our two countries, but aside from that, it recognizes Kenya\u2019s values,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe values around democracy, rule of law, and good governance. Those values align very, very well with the United States,\u201d Sing\u2019Oei.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that as part of his visit, President Ruto will showcase Kenya\u2019s democratic credentials at the Carter Center in Atlanta, underscoring Kenya\u2019s role as a bastion of democracy in the region.<\/p>\n<p>The PS said Kenya intends to capitalise on the State Visit to amplify not just its position on key issues, including climate change and the push to reform the global financial architecture, but also project Africa\u2019s voice. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis visit is important because there is a measure of misunderstanding, misapprehension, and mischaracterisation of Africa. There is a mindset because, for a very long time, there has been a general thinking that Africa is a backward-looking continent as a continent of disease, wars and conflict,\u201d he told <em>Capital In The Morning<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPresident Ruto will be arguing that if you are not looking to Africa as a continent that by 2050 will have a population of well over 1.5 billion people, you are looking at the wrong place,\u201d Sing\u2019Oei asserted.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Kenya\u2019s credibility <\/h2>\n<p>Further, Sing\u2019Oei said Biden\u2019s gesture to Ruto, the first African leader accorded a State Visit under the Administration, signals Kenya\u2019s recognition as a credible market.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA state visit is a massive, mammoth platform through which Kenya can project to not only Africa but the rest of the world its credibility as a place where one can do business and prosper,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Sing\u2019Oei noted as a recognition of where Kenya is vis-\u00e0-vis the US, the visit will signal to the market, investors, and friends of the US that Kenya is a safe space to invest.<\/p>\n<p>He said Kenya will seek to further anchor its trade ties with Washington based on five key pillars, economic prosperity, trade and investment being one of the most critical to Nairobi.<\/p>\n<p>The PS noted that technical teams from both countries were finalising negotiations for the Strategic Trade and Investment Partnership which will further bolster economic ties. <\/p>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">US Visits Kenyan Leaders<\/h4>\n<p>VisitorDescriptionDatePresident Daniel arap MoiState visit.February 19\u201322, 1980President Daniel arap MoiPrivate visit en route to U.N.
