{"id":41597,"date":"2024-05-18T11:03:24","date_gmt":"2024-05-18T11:03:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/index.php\/2024\/05\/18\/kenya-forges-ahead-with-chinas-offer-to-aid-construction-of-new-mfa-headquarters\/"},"modified":"2024-05-18T11:03:24","modified_gmt":"2024-05-18T11:03:24","slug":"kenya-forges-ahead-with-chinas-offer-to-aid-construction-of-new-mfa-headquarters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/kenya-forges-ahead-with-chinas-offer-to-aid-construction-of-new-mfa-headquarters\/","title":{"rendered":"Kenya forges ahead with China\u2019s offer to aid construction of new MFA headquarters"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>NAIROBI, Kenya, May 18 \u2014 The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) Friday hosted a technical team from China tasked to design new headquarters for the country\u2019s Foreign Office following a commitment in 2021.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Korir Sing\u2019Oei termed the project which will see MFA move from the Old Treasury Buildings along Harambee Avenue as a key demonstration of diplomatic relations between Kenya and China.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are deeply grateful to the Government of the People\u2019s Republic of China for its commitment to support the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the construction of our new headquarters,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis initiative stands as a visible marker of 60 years of diplomatic relations between our two nations,\u201d Sing\u2019Oei observed.<\/p>\n<p>The PS described Friday\u2019s meeting as productive, confirming Kenya\u2019s intent to forge ahead with the plan first announced in May 2021 when Chinese Ambassador to Kenya Zhou Pingjian gifted MFA two VVIP buses.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was a productive meeting with the technical team in charge of project design. Their expertise will be instrumental in ensuring the success of this important venture,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Shared history <\/h2>\n<p>Sing\u2019Oei noted the new office complex, which is expected to enhance operational efficiency, will serve as a lasting symbol of Kenya-China relations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis headquarters will not only symbolize our shared history but also our future aspirations as partners in progress,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<p>When China first made the offer, Sing\u2019Oei\u2019s predecessor Amb Macharia Kamau said the Foreign Office was keen to ensure the completion of the project before the end of Amb Zhou\u2019s tour of duty.
