{"id":4434,"date":"2024-02-23T12:04:02","date_gmt":"2024-02-23T12:04:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/index.php\/2024\/02\/23\/kimaiyo-roots-for-construction-of-a-stadium-in-kiptums-honour\/"},"modified":"2024-02-23T12:04:02","modified_gmt":"2024-02-23T12:04:02","slug":"kimaiyo-roots-for-construction-of-a-stadium-in-kiptums-honour","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/kimaiyo-roots-for-construction-of-a-stadium-in-kiptums-honour\/","title":{"rendered":"Kimaiyo roots for construction of a stadium in Kiptum\u2019s honour"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 23 \u2014 Keiyo South Member of Parliament Gideon Kimaiyo has urged the government to construct a new stadium in memory of the late world marathon record holder Kelvin Kiptum.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Kimaiyo said a facility to honour the athlete<strong> <\/strong>who tragically lost his life in a road accident on February 11 alongside his Rwandese coach Gervais Hakizimana will serve as a reminder of his achievements.<\/p>\n<p>Addressing mourners during Kiptum\u2019s funeral at his Chepsaimo home on Friday, Kimaiyo proposed naming of the stadium after the late athlete.<\/p>\n<p>The legislator highlighted that besides celebrating Kiptum\u2019s legacy as a national hero, the stadium would also address the longstanding issue of inadequate facilities for athletes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith utmost humility, we are requesting the government to construct that stadium for us through the sports fund,\u201d he emphasized.<\/p>\n<p>Kimaiyo noted that many athletes in the county lack proper facilities and accommodations, urging the government to establish a sports academy to cater to their needs.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Govt support <\/h2>\n<p>He also appealed to the government to assist Kiptum\u2019s family, expressing that if alive, the late champion would have uplifted the family\u2019s status.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are also appealing to the President to assist Kiptum\u2019s widow in securing a job at the national level,\u201d he added, noting that a similar request had been made to the Head of Public Service Felix Koskei during his visit to the family to offer condolences.<\/p>\n<p>President William Ruto led Kenyans and the international community in honoring Kiptum\u2019s memory at the funeral.<\/p>\n<p>Kiptum\u2019s sudden demise, along with his coach, sent shockwaves worldwide, especially as he was in the midst of preparations for the Rotterdam Marathon and the upcoming Olympics.<\/p>\n<p>His coach, Hakizimana, was laid to rest in Rwanda on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>At just 24, Kiptum\u2019s list of accolades included victories in prestigious marathons such as Valencia, Chicago, and London.<\/p>\n<p>His legacy as a trailblazer in the world of athletics will continue to inspire future generations of athletes, reminding them of the resilience, dedication, and passion he embodied.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 23 \u2014 Keiyo South Member of Parliament Gideon Kimaiyo has urged the government to construct a new stadium in memory of the late world marathon record holder Kelvin Kiptum.
