Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba Monday led a significant tree planting exercise in Banandega Forest, Cheptais, Mt. Elgon, Bungoma County.<\/p>\n
This initiative is part of the government\u2019s broader efforts to combat climate change.<\/p>\n
Accompanied by County Forestry Service Conservator Eric Abungu and Deputy County Commissioner Langa Ladilo, CS Namwamba oversaw the planting of 10,000 trees in the area.<\/p>\n
His ministry is also conducting similar exercises in Kasarani and Kilifi.<\/p>\n
Namwamba stated that his ministry fully supports the government\u2019s ambitious plan to plant 15 billion trees.<\/p>\n
He highlighted the ministry\u2019s achievements so far, saying, \u201cWe are carrying out this exercise in three different regions: here in Bungoma County, in the Kasarani ecosystem where my colleague CS Soipan Tuiya is leading the charge, as well as in Kilifi County.\u201d<\/p>\n
He further noted the progress made, \u201cSo far, the ministry has contributed by planting 3.8 million trees, and we intend to raise this number to 7 million before the end of the rainy season.\u201d<\/p>\n
Expressing confidence in the collective government effort, Namwamba said, \u201cThe whole-of-government approach will ensure that we hit the target of 15 billion trees by 2032. This will significantly restore Kenya\u2019s forest cover to 30 per cent.\u201d<\/p>\n
He urged everyone to participate in this crucial initiative, stating, \u201cWe will continue to do this. We have to raise the country\u2019s forest cover. I urge everybody to do their part and plant a tree today and walk together in this journey of climate action.\u201d<\/p>\n
This tree-planting exercise underscores the government\u2019s commitment to environmental conservation and climate change mitigation.<\/p>\n
