{"id":48989,"date":"2024-06-04T16:03:25","date_gmt":"2024-06-04T16:03:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/index.php\/2024\/06\/04\/kq-breaks-silence-on-week-long-mogadishu-flight-diversions\/"},"modified":"2024-06-04T16:03:25","modified_gmt":"2024-06-04T16:03:25","slug":"kq-breaks-silence-on-week-long-mogadishu-flight-diversions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/kq-breaks-silence-on-week-long-mogadishu-flight-diversions\/","title":{"rendered":"KQ breaks silence on week-long Mogadishu flight diversions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>NAIROBI, Kenya, Jun 4 \u2014 Kenya Airways (KQ) has commented on flight diversions reported in Mogadishu since May 24 citing safety concerns.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In a statement released on Tuesday, June 4, KQ said the diversions back to Nairobi were due to \u201cstronger-than-usual tailwinds\u201d. <\/p>\n<p>It said the conditions made it \u201cimpossible to safely land the aircraft\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>KQ said it could not fly the secondary approach into Mogadishu\u2019s Aden Adde International Airport due to safety concerns since its pilots would need to overlfy the city.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur crew did not opt to use the alternative runway approach overflying the city until the Airport authorities in Mogadishu mitigated the security and safety concerns,\u201d the airline stated. <\/p>\n<p>Kenya Airways however said authorities in Mogadishu had since addressed its concerns \u201cand we will be able to land the aircraft safely\u201d. <\/p>\n<p>KQ did not elaborate on how many flights it diverted and why the airline continued to fly into Mogadishu amid the concerns.<\/p>\n<p>A review of arrival data into Aden Adde showed other airlines operated seamlessly. <\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NAIROBI, Kenya, Jun 4 \u2014 Kenya Airways (KQ) has commented on flight diversions reported in Mogadishu since May 24 citing safety concerns.
