Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot has criticized the timing and relevance of the ongoing push for the \u201cone man, one vote, one shilling\u201d revenue-sharing formula.<\/p>\n
Speaking in Bomet County during a church fundraiser, Cheruiyot said the conversation on revenue sharing should remain within the Senate\u2019s purview, which has the mandate to handle the matter.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is useless to politicise the issue of revenue sharing. The Senate has the responsibility to deliberate on revenue sharing, and other parties should not interfere with this legislative duty,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n
He pointed out that the current generation formula, used for resource allocation, was passed by the Senate almost four years ago, and any changes must be followed with careful deliberation between the mandated bodies.<\/p>\n
The Kericho Senator urged leaders to focus on fulfilling pre-election pledges in line with the Kenya Kwanza development agenda.<\/p>\n
His sentiments were echoed by Narok County MP Rebecca Tonkei, who warned leaders against using the \u201cone man, one vote, one shilling\u201d revenue formula to create divisions among Kenyans.<\/p>\n
The formula, which has received support from Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, a section of Mt. Kenya leaders, and Azimio Leader Raila Odinga, advocates for the allocation of resources based on population.<\/p>\n
