In a significant move towards bolstering infrastructure in Northern Kenya, the Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport, Kipchumba Murkomen announced plans to extend the Isiolo-Kula Mawe road all the way to Wajir.<\/p>\n
Speaking during a visit to Isiolo North, the CS emphasized the government\u2019s commitment to realizing the vision of past leaders, including former President Mwai Kibaki, to develop the region\u2019s road network<\/p>\n
\u201cThis administration will complete the dream of our founding fathers such as President Kibaki to tarmac roads in the North from Isiolo to Mandera.\u201d He said.<\/p>\n
The 190km Isiolo-Kula Mawe road, soon to be launched, marks a critical step in this ambitious plan.<\/p>\n
Murkomen highlighted that the current administration is dedicated to completing the LAPSSET corridor, a monumental project linking Lamu to Isiolo via Garissa, and eventually reaching Mandera.<\/p>\n
\u201cWith multiple roads under construction or in the procurement stage, the administration is confident in achieving this transformative goal.\u201d Murkomen said.<\/p>\n
The operationalization of the LAPSSET corridor as a transport hub is already attracting business to the Lamu port, promising economic growth for towns along the route, including Isiolo.<\/p>\n
This development is expected to mirror the success of the Northern corridor, which has fostered the growth of five cities, thus creating new settlements and business hubs in the north.<\/p>\n
During his visit, the CS, alongside key leaders including Senator Dullo Fatuma, Isiolo North MP Joseph Samal, and Deputy Governor James Lowasa, also participated in a fundraising event aimed at empowering the youth of Isiolo North.<\/p>\n
He reiterated the importance of equitable resource distribution based on objective needs assessments, citing the successful completion of projects like the 800km Nairobi-Moyale highway and the Lamu Port as prime examples.<\/p>\n
These initiatives, he noted, are pivotal in unlocking the region\u2019s potential and ensuring inclusive development for all Kenyans.<\/p>\n
