{"id":52251,"date":"2024-06-12T09:04:43","date_gmt":"2024-06-12T09:04:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/index.php\/2024\/06\/12\/elon-musk-unexpectedly-drops-case-against-openai\/"},"modified":"2024-06-12T09:04:43","modified_gmt":"2024-06-12T09:04:43","slug":"elon-musk-unexpectedly-drops-case-against-openai","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/elon-musk-unexpectedly-drops-case-against-openai\/","title":{"rendered":"Elon Musk unexpectedly drops case against OpenAI"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"td-paragraph-padding-1\">\n<p><strong>Elon Musk has unexpectedly asked a California court to withdraw a legal case against OpenAI and its boss Sam Altman, which accused them of abandoning the firm\u2019s founding mission of developing artificial intelligence (AI) for humanity\u2019s benefit.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The filing submitted by the multi-billionaire\u2019s lawyers asked for the months-old case to be dropped without offering any reason for the move.<\/p>\n<p>It came just a day before the court was expected to hear the ChatGPT-developer\u2019s bid to have the case dismissed.<br \/>\nBBC News has contacted Mr Musk\u2019s lawyer and OpenAI for comment.<\/p>\n<p>The latest filing asked for the case\u2019s dismissal \u201cwithout prejudice\u201d, meaning Mr Musk could still reactivate it at a later stage.<\/p>\n<p>The Tesla boss filed the lawsuit against OpenAI at the end of February this year, arguing the company he had helped found in 2015 had deviated from its altruistic goals to focus on making money.<\/p>\n<p>OpenAI countered that Mr Musk had previously backed the idea of a for-profit structure and even suggested a merger with his electric car firm Tesla.<\/p>\n<p>The feud intensified earlier this week after Apple unveiled a partnership with OpenAI to boost its Siri voice assistant and operating systems with OpenAI\u2019s ChatGPT chatbot.<\/p>\n<p>After the announcement, Mr Musk posted several messages on his social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, criticising the tie-up.<\/p>\n<p>One of the posts ended with the words: \u201cApple has no clue what\u2019s actually going on once they hand your data over to OpenAI.
