{"id":52740,"date":"2024-06-13T11:03:01","date_gmt":"2024-06-13T11:03:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/index.php\/2024\/06\/13\/saudi-suthorities-extend-deadline-for-stephen-munyakhos-execution-to-nov-26\/"},"modified":"2024-06-13T11:03:01","modified_gmt":"2024-06-13T11:03:01","slug":"saudi-suthorities-extend-deadline-for-stephen-munyakhos-execution-to-nov-26","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/saudi-suthorities-extend-deadline-for-stephen-munyakhos-execution-to-nov-26\/","title":{"rendered":"Saudi suthorities extend deadline for Stephen Munyakho\u2019s execution to Nov 26"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>NAIROBI, Kenya, June 13<\/strong> \u2013 <strong>Saudi Arabia authorities have extended the deadline for the execution of Kenyan Stephen Munyakho to November 26 amid talks on blood money.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>According to Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Principal Secretary Korir Sing\u2019Oei the government continues to actively search for a resolution of the outstanding and complex matter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wish to notify the public that we continue to actively search for the resolution of the outstanding and complex matter regarding Stephen Munyakho,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFollowing our intervention, the deadline for the collection of compensation has been extended by four months from the initial 26th of July 2024 to the 26th of November 2024.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Sing\u2019Oei asserted that the foreign ministry is working with Stephen\u2019s family and will consolidate all fundraising efforts on the week beginning July 8 to assess progress made.<\/p>\n<p>Likewise, he averred that the government is exhausting all available diplomatic channels in a bid to ensure Stephen is home with family.<\/p>\n<p>Stephen Munyakho, 50, was due to be executed in June for the murder of a Yemeni man in 2011.<\/p>\n<p>His family has been making an effort to raise a 3.5 million Saudi Riyals (approximately Sh120 million) diyah or blood money required to secure his freedom under the Islamic legal system, known as Sharia.<\/p>\n<p>He is the son of veteran journalist Dorothy Kweyu.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NAIROBI, Kenya, June 13 \u2013 Saudi Arabia authorities have extended the deadline for the execution of Kenyan Stephen Munyakho to November 26 amid talks on blood money.
