{"id":5337,"date":"2024-02-25T12:03:39","date_gmt":"2024-02-25T12:03:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/index.php\/2024\/02\/25\/president-geingob-laid-to-rest-at-the-heroes-acre-in-windhoek\/"},"modified":"2024-02-25T12:03:39","modified_gmt":"2024-02-25T12:03:39","slug":"president-geingob-laid-to-rest-at-the-heroes-acre-in-windhoek","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/president-geingob-laid-to-rest-at-the-heroes-acre-in-windhoek\/","title":{"rendered":"President Geingob laid to rest at the Heroes\u2019 Acre in Windhoek"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 25 \u2014 Namibia\u2019s Third President Hage Geingob has been laid to rest at the country\u2019s Heroes\u2019 Acre in Windhoek.<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<\/div>\n<p>Geingob was accorded a 21-gun salute and a flypast by the Namibia Defence Forces marking the culmination of a State Funeral spearheaded by his successor, Nangolo Mbumba, who assumed the presidency on his passing. <\/p>\n<p>Earlier, the military procession bearing Geingob\u2019s casket arrived at the Heroes\u2019 Acre shortly before noon on Sunday escorted by President Mbumba and the late President\u2019s window Monica Geingos and members of his family.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The burial followed weeks-long memorial activities leading to a State memorial service held Saturday evening at the country\u2019s Independence Stadium.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>President William Ruto joined dozens of leaders from the continent at the memorial service where he hailed the late leader as a leading voice in Africa\u2019s transformation.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.capitalfm.co.ke\/news\/2024\/02\/ruto-sustains-call-to-reform-global-financial-order-at-hage-memorial\/\">Ruto sustains call to reform global financial order at Hage memorial<\/a>\n<\/div>\n<p>Geingob passed away on February 4 while undergoing treatment.
