{"id":56020,"date":"2024-06-21T10:03:11","date_gmt":"2024-06-21T10:03:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/index.php\/2024\/06\/21\/court-declines-push-to-discontinue-sakajas-dishi-na-county-programme\/"},"modified":"2024-06-21T10:03:11","modified_gmt":"2024-06-21T10:03:11","slug":"court-declines-push-to-discontinue-sakajas-dishi-na-county-programme","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/court-declines-push-to-discontinue-sakajas-dishi-na-county-programme\/","title":{"rendered":"Court declines push to discontinue Sakaja\u2019s Dishi na County programme"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>NAIROBI, Kenya, Jun 21 \u2014 The High Court has declined a petition against Dishi Na County, Governor Johnson Sakaja\u2019s flagship school feeding programme in Nairobi.<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p>Justice Chacha Mwita cleared the programme on Friday while renedring a decision in a case filed by politician Janet Ouko.<\/p>\n<p>The former County Executive Committee Members for Education argued the program lacked the necessary public participation and suggested that the funds could have been better utilised to build classrooms.<\/p>\n<p>Judge Mwita emphasized the importance of the Nairobi Feeding Program for the welfare of hundreds of thousands of school-going children. <\/p>\n<p>He cited the Constitution, stating that matters concerning children\u2019s welfare must be prioritized, thus justifying the dismissal of the case.<\/p>\n<p>Nairobi Health and Nutrition CEC Member Suzanne Silantoi praised the ruling, highlighting its significance for Nairobi\u2019s children, many of whom have been neglected for a long time. <\/p>\n<p>She noted that one in four children previously missed school due to hunger.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Governor, Johnson Sakaja, prioritized food in schools after discovering that hunger was causing children to miss school,\u201d Silantoi confirmed. <\/p>\n<p>She reported that since the program\u2019s inception, over 17 million meals have been served, benefiting more than 200,000 pupils who receive hot, nutritious meals daily at a cost of 5 shillings each.<\/p>\n<p>Silantoi also mentioned plans to expand the program by completing seven more kitchens in Nairobi, which would bring the total to 17 kitchens serving over 307,000 children. <\/p>\n<p>This will cover the entire scope of children in Nairobi\u2019s public ECDE and Primary schools have access to the meals. <\/p>\n<p>The program will also be extended to children in informal primary schools at a later stage of implementation.<\/p>\n<p>Launched last year, Dishi na County began with the groundbreaking of 10 kitchens across Nairobi, and the first meal was served on August 28, 2023. <\/p>\n<p>The program is a partnership between Nairobi County and Food4Education, a non-profit organization that also operates in other counties, including Muranga and Mombasa.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NAIROBI, Kenya, Jun 21 \u2014 The High Court has declined a petition against Dishi Na County, Governor Johnson Sakaja\u2019s flagship school feeding programme in Nairobi.
