Supporters of Embakasi North MP James Gakuya Saturday staged protests over the cancellation of United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party Nairobi grassroots elections.<\/p>\n
The UDA delegates stormed the party\u2019s headquarters along Ngong Road to express their displeasure over the last-minute move by the Party. The legislator is vying for the post with Nairobi governor Johnson Sakaja.<\/p>\n
This is the third time the hotly contested poll which had been scheduled for June 22 at the Bomas of Kenya is being cancelled.<\/p>\n
340 delegates were to participate in the poll.<\/p>\n
\u201cDue to unavoidable circumstances, the County-level election for Nairobi County will not take place as planned,\u201d reads a statement issued by the party\u2019s national elections board chairperson Anthony Mwaura.<\/p>\n
Mwaura did not, however, provide reasons for the cancellation of the poll.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe regret any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n
However, some of the officials who spoke to the press said the exercise was called off following a court order obtained by the Political Parties\u00a0Disputes\u00a0Tribunal (PPDT).<\/p>\n
The representatives who appealed for patience assured the hotly contested grassroot poll will be held in a week noting that their lawyers were doing everything possible to sort the issue which they kept under wraps.<\/p>\n
