{"id":57440,"date":"2024-06-24T23:03:10","date_gmt":"2024-06-24T23:03:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/index.php\/2024\/06\/24\/protests-against-finance-bill-should-end-by-630pm-says-cs-kindiki\/"},"modified":"2024-06-24T23:03:10","modified_gmt":"2024-06-24T23:03:10","slug":"protests-against-finance-bill-should-end-by-630pm-says-cs-kindiki","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/protests-against-finance-bill-should-end-by-630pm-says-cs-kindiki\/","title":{"rendered":"Protests against Finance Bill should end by 6:30PM, says CS Kindiki"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><strong>The government has warned Kenyans planning to hold protests Tuesday, against the Finance Bill 2024, not to engage in violence.\u00a0<\/strong><\/div>\n<div class=\"css-175oi2r\">\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Interior Cabinet Secretary Prof. Kithure Kindiki told all those planning to picket that they must r<span class=\"css-1jxf684 r-bcqeeo r-1ttztb7 r-qvutc0 r-poiln3\">emain peaceful and unarmed throughout their assembly, demonstration, picket or presentation of petitions noting that they should n<\/span><span class=\"css-1jxf684 r-bcqeeo r-1ttztb7 r-qvutc0 r-poiln3\">ot engage in violence or riots.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"css-1jxf684 r-bcqeeo r-1ttztb7 r-qvutc0 r-poiln3\">While warning demonstrators over breaching public peace he also noted that they should n<\/span><span class=\"css-1jxf684 r-bcqeeo r-1ttztb7 r-qvutc0 r-poiln3\">ot intimidate or harass non protesters.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"css-1jxf684 r-bcqeeo r-1ttztb7 r-qvutc0 r-poiln3\">He said it is the constitutional right of every person, peaceably and unarmed, to assemble, to demonstrate, to picket and to present petitions to authorities. <\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"css-146c3p1 r-bcqeeo r-1ttztb7 r-qvutc0 r-37j5jr r-1inkyih r-16dba41 r-bnwqim r-135wba7\"><span class=\"css-1jxf684 r-bcqeeo r-1ttztb7 r-qvutc0 r-poiln3\">Adding that: \u201cAccording to Article 24(1)(d) of the Constitution of Kenya, this right, as all other fundamental rights is only limited by, inter alia, the need to ensure the enjoyment of the right does not prejudice the rights and freedoms of others.\u201d<\/span><\/div>\n<p><span class=\"css-1jxf684 r-bcqeeo r-1ttztb7 r-qvutc0 r-poiln3\">Picketers have been asked to inform the Police of their intended routes and timings, c<\/span>all off their activities at at 6.30pm and not provoke, attack or obstruct law enforcement officers or other members of the public.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"css-175oi2r r-1s2bzr4\">\n<div class=\"css-146c3p1 r-bcqeeo r-1ttztb7 r-qvutc0 r-37j5jr r-1inkyih r-16dba41 r-bnwqim r-135wba7\"><span class=\"css-1jxf684 r-bcqeeo r-1ttztb7 r-qvutc0 r-poiln3\">He said all those holding protests should follow the escort and guidelines of law enforcement officers to ensure orderly conduct and asked them not to obstruct traffic of any kind as well as n<\/span><span class=\"css-1jxf684 r-bcqeeo r-1ttztb7 r-qvutc0 r-poiln3\">ot obstruct, block or vandalise any private or public property.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"css-146c3p1 r-bcqeeo r-1ttztb7 r-qvutc0 r-37j5jr r-1inkyih r-16dba41 r-bnwqim r-135wba7\"><span class=\"css-1jxf684 r-bcqeeo r-1ttztb7 r-qvutc0 r-poiln3\">The CS said demonstrators should adhere to the laws of Kenya, including the Protected Areas Act (Cap 204) and the Public Order Act (Cap 57) of the Laws of Kenya and should n<\/span><span class=\"css-1jxf684 r-bcqeeo r-1ttztb7 r-qvutc0 r-poiln3\">ot interfere with public and private activities or road, rail, sea or air transport Whatever the issues, whichever the grievances, whatever the matter, the rule of law and public order must be maintained by all. <\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"css-146c3p1 r-bcqeeo r-1ttztb7 r-qvutc0 r-37j5jr r-1inkyih r-16dba41 r-bnwqim r-135wba7\"><span class=\"css-1jxf684 r-bcqeeo r-1ttztb7 r-qvutc0 r-poiln3\">\u201cNon protesters and those who hold contrary views with the protesters are also bound by the same Constitutional and legal imperatives.
