The International Monetary Fund (IMF) says it is closely monitoring the situation in Kenya following the nationwide youth-led anti-finance bill protests.<\/p>\n
In a statement, the IMF affirmed its commitment to helping Kenya overcome its economic challenges.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe IMF is closely monitoring the situation in Kenya. Our main goal in supporting Kenya is to help it overcome the difficult economic challenges it faces and improve its economic prospects and the well-being of its people,\u201d said IMF \u00a0Director of Communications Julie Kozack.<\/p>\n
Kozack said the IMF was \u201cdeeply concerned\u201d about the tragic events in Kenya in recent days and saddened by the loss of lives and the many injuries reported during the protests.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur thoughts are with all the people affected by the turmoil in the country,\u201d she stated.<\/p>\n
The IMF further expressed committed to working together with Kenya to chart a course towards robust, sustainable, and inclusive growth.<\/p>\n
At least 20 people were reported dead while over 120 were\u00a0 injured during the anti-finance bill protests.<\/p>\n
On Wednesday, President William Ruto announced withdrawal of the contentious bill to allow multi-sectoral and multi-stakeholder engagements.<\/p>\n
