{"id":58891,"date":"2024-06-28T09:03:12","date_gmt":"2024-06-28T09:03:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/index.php\/2024\/06\/28\/calm-reported-in-nairobi-other-major-towns-after-protests\/"},"modified":"2024-06-28T09:03:12","modified_gmt":"2024-06-28T09:03:12","slug":"calm-reported-in-nairobi-other-major-towns-after-protests","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/calm-reported-in-nairobi-other-major-towns-after-protests\/","title":{"rendered":"Calm reported in Nairobi, other major towns after protests"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>NAIROBI, Kenya, Jun 28 \u2013 Calm has been restored in Nairobi and other major towns across the country following Thursday\u2019s protests.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Businesses have resumed normal operations, bringing relief to many residents and business owners.<\/p>\n<p>The protests, which erupted owing to parliament\u2019s passage of the controversial Finance Bill, had caused significant disruptions, with many shops and offices closing early as a precaution.<\/p>\n<p>In Nairobi, the city\u2019s streets were back to their usual activity, with public transportation operating smoothly and no reports of significant disturbances.<\/p>\n<p>Major markets and shopping centers, which had been closed, are now fully open, and citizens are going about their daily routines without fear or interruption.<\/p>\n<p>Reports from other towns, including Mombasa, Kisumu, and Eldoret, indicate a similar return to normalcy.<\/p>\n<p>The nationwide anti-finance bill protests reached climax on Tuesday when protestors overwhelmed police and overrun parliament buildings and destroyed property.<\/p>\n<p>Nairobi\u2019s Central Business District (CBD) and downtown shops bore the heaviest brunt of demonstrations.<\/p>\n<p>Looters who took advantage of the chaos ransacked business premises for the better part of the afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>Alex Muia, one of the Traders in Nairobi stated that he has lost goods worth Sh500,000 as his shop was vandalized during the protests.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have lost a lot of things and there is no other way because there is nothing to do but start from scratch.
