Police are investigating the circumstances under which a senior police officer was accidentally shot at the Kegonga Police Station, Kuria, Migori County.<\/p>\n
James Mugo, Kegonga sub-county police commander, was fatally shot by the officer in charge of the armoury Monday evening.<\/p>\n
According to police reports, the deceased had visited the armoury to retrieve his firearm when the officer in charge of the armoury unintentionally discharged a bullet, hitting him in the thigh.<\/p>\n
Migori County Commissioner Mutua Kisilu stated that the officer was following safety protocols before handing over the firearm, but the accidental discharge led to the tragic incident.<\/p>\n
The officer was rushed to the Kegonga sub-county hospital and later transferred to Migori referral hospital, where he unfortunately passed away during treatment due to excessive bleeding.<\/p>\n
The body is preserved at the facility mortuary pending autopsy.<\/p>\n
