{"id":61920,"date":"2024-07-05T14:03:20","date_gmt":"2024-07-05T14:03:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/index.php\/2024\/07\/05\/kenyas-wheelchair-boxers-bag-second-place-after-host-poland-at-paralympics\/"},"modified":"2024-07-05T14:03:20","modified_gmt":"2024-07-05T14:03:20","slug":"kenyas-wheelchair-boxers-bag-second-place-after-host-poland-at-paralympics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/kenyas-wheelchair-boxers-bag-second-place-after-host-poland-at-paralympics\/","title":{"rendered":"Kenya\u2019s wheelchair boxers bag second place after host Poland at Paralympics"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>NAIROBI, Kenya, Jul 5 \u2014 Kenya\u2019s wheelchair boxing team secured second place in the World Paralympic boxing competition in Poland.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The team headed by Mary Atieno registered the result after emerging second in three different categories.<\/p>\n<p>Evans Odhiambo Absalom won gold in Heavyweight category while Emmanuel Yakavi bagged the Lightweight category.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to the press, Atieno reiterated that the team was able to perform due to support from wellwishers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are happy that we were able to represent Kenya internationally and we emerged number 2 winning gold in 2 categories,\u201d she reiterated<\/p>\n<p>Overrall, the team won a trophy for being the most disciplined.<\/p>\n<p>The team got a reprieve after former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko respnded to their call for assitance.<\/p>\n<p>Sonko paid for their visas, competition uniform and accomodation. He further gave them training kits including globes, punching bags and wheelchairs<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSonko\u2019s intervention came in handy we we were able to train with the equipment bought,\u201d the team leader noted while commending the Ministry of Sports for support.<\/p>\n<p>Kenya faced six teams in the contest including Portugal which settled for the third place.<\/p>\n<p>The team jetted back to the country on Thursday. <\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NAIROBI, Kenya, Jul 5 \u2014 Kenya\u2019s wheelchair boxing team secured second place in the World Paralympic boxing competition in Poland.
