{"id":6245,"date":"2024-02-27T14:03:15","date_gmt":"2024-02-27T14:03:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/index.php\/2024\/02\/27\/laiser-hill-st-anthony-kitale-among-schools-shortlisted-for-sports-personality-of-the-year-awards\/"},"modified":"2024-02-27T14:03:15","modified_gmt":"2024-02-27T14:03:15","slug":"laiser-hill-st-anthony-kitale-among-schools-shortlisted-for-sports-personality-of-the-year-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/laiser-hill-st-anthony-kitale-among-schools-shortlisted-for-sports-personality-of-the-year-awards\/","title":{"rendered":"Laiser hill, St. Anthony Kitale among schools shortlisted for sports personality of the year awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Laiser Hill and St. Anthony\u2019s school Kitale are among teams short-listed in the boys\u2019 category for next week\u2019s Sports Personality of the Year Awards.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In a 2023 year that saw national and regional secondary school sports games\u2019 favorites maintain their dominance, with others resurrecting after periods of dull performances, the championships were marked by the emergence of schools that caught the eye with impressive performances worth the recognition.<\/p>\n<p>Nyanza\u2019s Onjiko, Namwela, Butula, Hospital Hill, Mbooni High, Musingu High and Ruthimiti are some of the shortlisted schools that fall into this category, with Kayonzo earning its place in the category after pulling up their socks in the teams\u2019 competitions.<\/p>\n<p>St. Anthony continued their dominance as the kings of football at the school level, beating Dagoretti High School 2-0.<\/p>\n<p>They also made an appearance at the East Africa Games in Huye, Rwanda which catapulted several star players including Aldrine Kibet, Amos Wanjala, Joseph Omuse and Allan Kasavuli who went on to play for the national under -18 team at the Cecafa U-18 Championships in November.<\/p>\n<p>Their dominance wasn\u2019t on the football scene only, as they imposed their skill and style of play in hockey, qualifying for the Rwanda Games and finishing third after they beat Uganda\u2019s St. Mary\u2019s Kisubi 2-0.<\/p>\n<p>In basketball, Rift Valley\u2019s Laiser Hill narrowly edged Dagoretti High School 45-43 to clinch their ninth national crown in 17 years. They would slump to fourth in the regional games after losing 76-44 to Rwanda\u2019s LDK in the third-place playoff.<\/p>\n<p>Kakamega\u2019s Kayonzo\u2019s dominance on the rugby scene gained them recognition, as they walked away with both the national and regional titles.
