Dadaab Member of Parliament Farah Maalim has refuted claims that he called for the \u201cslaughtering of Gen Z\u201d at the height of anti-tax protests largely spearheaded by the Kenyan youth.<\/p>\n
The lawmaker insists remarks attributed to him in a video clip that has gone viral on social media were blown out of proportion.<\/p>\n
\u201cI never called for the death of any Kenyans. I didn\u2019t and I will never call for it,\u201d he said Monday afternoon<\/p>\n
Maalim maintains that he is a political with integrity and will in no way jeopardize a reputation he has built for many years.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am a very honest person with over 30 years of history in the politics of this country. I am one person who has had a track record that is matched by very few people,\u201d he said in a press conference<\/p>\n
He, however, reiterated that he will continue to openly speak his mind about the path the country should take to avoid collapse.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat I feel in my conscience is best for this country is what I am going to do,\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI came in as an opposition MP in 1992 through Ford Kenya when everybody elese in the region was in KANU. I stuck by my principles and my philosophy and that has never changed,\u201d Farah Maalim, MP Daadab<\/p>\n
At the same time, the legislator poured cold water on the decision by his party Wiper to call for his de-whipping and subsequent recall from parliament. He insists he remains popular amongst his constituents<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen it comes to votes, I will go back to my constituency. Everybody knows my popularity on the ground. Yu don\u2019t have somebody who has been here for 30 years who gets elected again now. But I am there and I will come back until I decide to retire,\u201d said Maalim<\/p>\n
