MOMBASA, Kenya Feb 28 \u2013 Agencies operating under the National Council on the Administration of Justice (NCAJ) have vowed to assist the National Police Service in digitizing its operations to streamline processes within the justice system.<\/p>\n
Chief Justice Martha Koome emphasized the importance of embracing technology during the ongoing NCAJ Council meeting, noting that the police service lags behind other agencies in leveraging digital tools to improve service delivery and promote interoperability with existing systems.<\/p>\n
Key areas targeted for digitization include the Occurrence Book at police stations, charge sheets, cash bail records, and the implementation of instant traffic fines. Chief Justice Koome highlighted the Judiciary\u2019s transition away from cash transactions at all levels and stressed the necessity of supporting the National Police Service in digitalizing operations, including cash bail procedures, to enhance efficiency.<\/p>\n
Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome acknowledged the challenges faced by the public in handling cash bail at police stations and recognized the urgent need to digitize the Occurrence Book (OB) among other processes. He urged for the development of an application to facilitate the receipt of cash bail and traffic fines.<\/p>\n
In response, the NCAJ meeting prioritized the digitization of the OB and committed to supporting the initiative. Additionally, they underscored the importance of collaborating to automate instant traffic fines to alleviate backlog and mitigate process abuse within the justice sector.<\/p>\n
The NCAJ Council reaffirmed its commitment to mobilize adequate resources to sustain efforts aimed at combating corruption, enhancing accountability, and delivering efficient services to the public.<\/p>\n
