{"id":67617,"date":"2024-07-19T08:03:50","date_gmt":"2024-07-19T08:03:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/index.php\/2024\/07\/19\/mass-it-outage-affects-airlines-media-and-banks-2\/"},"modified":"2024-07-19T08:03:50","modified_gmt":"2024-07-19T08:03:50","slug":"mass-it-outage-affects-airlines-media-and-banks-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/mass-it-outage-affects-airlines-media-and-banks-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Mass IT outage affects airlines, media and banks"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"td-paragraph-padding-1\">\n<p><strong>A raft of global institutions \u2013 including major banks, media outlets and airlines \u2013 have reported being hit by a mass IT outage.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Australia has been particularly hard hit with flights grounded, supermarkets experiencing checkout chaos, and broadcast networks left scrambling on air as autocue, graphics and computers failed.<\/p>\n<p>The US state of Alaska has also warned its emergency services are affected.<br \/>\nThe cause of the outage is unclear, but many of those affected have linked it to Microsoft PC operating systems.<\/p>\n<p>An official Microsoft 365 service update posted to X earlier in the day said \u201d we\u2019re investigating an issue impacting users ability to access various Microsoft 365 apps and services\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>However, a Microsoft spokesperson told the BBC on Friday that \u201cthe majority of services were recovered\u201d hours earlier.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for Australia\u2019s Home Affairs Minister said the outage appears to be related to an issue at global cybersecurity firm Crowdstrike, and the country\u2019s cybersecurity watchdog said there is no information to suggest it an attack.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur current information is this outage relates to a technical issue with a third-party software platform employed by affected companies,\u201d they said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>Alaskan officials said many 911 and non-emergency call centres are not working properly.<br \/>\nAustralian telecom firm Telstra has said triple-0 call centres \u2013 the main emergency contact in Australia \u2013 are not affected, but that it is working with other state emergency services providers to implement backup processes.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile at Sydney Airport, information disappeared from departure boards.
