Five fraudsters, including a serving police officer, believed to be part of a criminal gang that has been defrauding unsuspecting public officials while posing as EACC detectives carrying out investigations, have been arrested.<\/p>\n
The five were nabbed on Friday while undertaking a \u2018search operation\u2019 in Kitui County Government.<\/p>\n
They had raided the residence of Kitui County Director of Revenue, purporting to be investigating alleged embezzlement of funds.<\/p>\n
The Commission received a notification from the local OCPD and confirmed that the individuals are imposters and not staff of the EACC.<\/p>\n
They have been deceiving unsuspecting public officials by promising to manipulate investigations in their favour.<\/p>\n
The suspects, who were driving a white Toyota Fielder (Reg. No. KDC 846X), are:<\/p>\n
CPL Anne Mutheu, 46, a police officer at Muthangari Police Station
\nSheddy Kakai, 37
\nPermelus Kasama, 48
\nJoseph Musembi, 34
\nDavid Bembe, 33<\/p>\n
When DCI officers arrived in response to a distress call, the suspects presented a fake \u2018search warrant\u2019 purportedly issued by Milimani Law Courts, along with forged job cards bearing the names William Kirui Rono, Meshack K. Matina, and Mary Nzilani Mwaniki, as Chief Executive Officer and Director of Anti-Corruption Intelligence, EACC.<\/p>\n
The suspects are currently detained at Kitui Police Station pending further investigation.<\/p>\n
