The Meru High Court has stopped MCAs from debating impeachment motion against Governor Kawira Mwangaza, which was\u00a0 scheduled for Thursday.<\/p>\n
Judge Linus Kassan issued the ruling on Wednesday, pending a decision on a case filed by Mwangaza challenging the impeachment process.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe impeachment process is halted Pending my ruling and since this is a matter of public interest, the rulings will be delivered on Monday 29th July 2024 via email to all parties,\u201d the Judge ruled.<\/p>\n
Governor Mwangaza sought to prevent the local MCAs from pursuing her impeachment, arguing that the motion is flawed and driven by her political opponents.<\/p>\n
The decision comes as a reprieve for the Governor, who is facing intense political pressure from the local MCAs and her fourth impeachment attempt.<\/p>\n
The MCAs have accused Mwangaza of gross violations of the Constitution, national and county laws, and alleged abuse of office.<\/p>\n
On Monday, a section of MCAs opposed the proposed motion to impeach Governor Mwangaza, a move that could see the motion collapse in the assembly.<\/p>\n
The 10 MCAs who initially signed in favor of the proposed motion made a U-turn, asking the mover to withdraw the motion and allow for dialogue between the two arms of government.<\/p>\n
