Finland deems the Moroccan Autonomy Plan as \u201ca good basis for a solution\u201d to the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.<\/p>\n
This position was expressed in the Joint Communiqu\u00e9, published this Tuesday in Helsinki, following talks between Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, and Finnish Minister of Foreign Affairs, Elina Valtonen.<\/p>\n
\u201cFinland considers the autonomy plan presented in 2007 as a serious and credible contribution to the UN-led political process and as a good basis for a solution agreed upon between the parties,\u201d according to the communiqu\u00e9, reiterating its support for the \u201cpolitical process aimed at reaching a just, lasting and mutually acceptable political solution\u201d.<\/p>\n
In this communiqu\u00e9, both ministers also expressed their common position on the exclusive role of the United Nations in the political process, reaffirming their support for the UN Security Council resolutions and the support of their respective countries for the efforts of the UN Secretary-General\u2019s Personal Envoy, aimed at advancing this process.<\/p>\n
Finland\u2019s new position, which comes just a week after France\u2019s, reinforces the momentum within the European Union. <\/p>\n
Indeed, it is the 17th EU member country to support autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty.<\/p>\n
This new position is also in line with the international momentum generated by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, which has seen a large number of countries from all regions of the world express their support for the autonomy plan under Moroccan sovereignty.<\/p>\n
