Over 200 exhibitors in the manufacturing sector \u00a0from Africa ,Asia and Europe \u00a0have converged in Nairobi Kenya, for the 8th Edition of the Agro-Food Pack Exhibition.<\/p>\n
This annual event, renowned for contributing to the agro-food and packaging industries , is been hosted by Dubai based MXM Exhibitors, it \u00a0will take place for three days as it seeks to connect local farmers to the best agricultural technology.<\/p>\n
Manufacturing in Kenya is \u00a0a \u00a0robust sector contributing \u00a07.6% to the GDP.<\/p>\n
It is the second, after \u00a0the public sector, which has over 900,000 jobs, while manufacturing has \u00a0363,000 jobs \u00a0 contributing 18% to the taxes. So 360 billion, and it has \u00a0interlinkages with other sectors.<\/p>\n
The \u00a0Chief Executive Officer ,Kenya Association of Manufacturers, Mr Antony Mwangi \u00a0noted that there is a need \u00a0to grow from 7.6% to 20% by 2030 Or else there will be a crisis of jobs and the economy will \u00a0not perform optimally. As there are \u00a0a million people joining the job market every year.<\/p>\n
He also added that the manufacturing sector remains the most under leveraged area urging the government to reduce the bureaucracy in the sector<\/p>\n
Kenya has open markets in the EU, the \u00a0AFCTA therefore , it has \u00a0access to 50% of the global value chain of global GDP, but
\nIt\u2019s not producing enough.<\/p>\n
Stakeholders in the sector \u00a0are urging the government to come up with a new and working industrial policy that will help \u00a0to accelerate growth .<\/p>\n
As the manufacturing sector is striving to grow, stakeholders noted that there are some challenges being faced such as post COVID , \u00a0climate change and the Finance bill which keeps changing yearly.<\/p>\n
In order to curb the issue of the finance bill ,Kajiado county is \u00a0trying to make sure that it \u00a0doesn\u2019t impact manufacturers, or even the people who are doing business.<\/p>\n
They are urging the government to change \u00a0the bill, after two years or even three years, so that business can stabilize.<\/p>\n
Mr Dickson Sitei CEO of Kajiado Investment Authority, has urged investors to invest in the country and in Kajiado as it has been growing over the years and is a potential area for economic growth.<\/p>\n
The area has experienced a migration rate of \u00a090%.<\/p>\n
