You can only be sponsored your government to go to that job and those who can elect you are governments of Africa including Republic of Kenya,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Wetangula said Kenya will not spare any efforts in campaigning for Odinga. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll campaigns we will do for him; we will put on our jogging shoes to make sure we rotate around Africa to make sure we campaign for Raila Odinga to be the next chairman of the Africa Union.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<p>Our support for <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RailaOdinga?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@RailaOdinga<\/a> is not to retire him from the local scene, it is because we know he is capable\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ZFEQed9rVJ\">pic.twitter.com\/ZFEQed9rVJ<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Rt.Hon.Dr.Moses Wetang&#8217;ula (@HonWetangula) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/HonWetangula\/status\/1763580403976130669?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 1, 2024<\/a>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Quit local politics <\/h2>\n<p>Wetangula\u2019s remarks marked a softening of his initial stance on February 25, 2024, when he stated that it was time for Odinga to leave local politics after five failed attempts to capture the presidency.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat he has done on the local scene is enough, even Shakespeare said the world is a stage, you come to play your part, you leave, and others enter the scene. Let him go to Addis Ababa,\u201d Wetangula said.<\/p>\n<p>Odinga announced his interest in the influential AUC post on February 15.<\/p>\n<p>The government has said it fully backs Odinga\u2019s bid which, if successful, could lock the opposition leader out of the 2027 State House race.<\/p>\n<p>President Ruto is fronting Odinga for the coveted post to replace Moussa Faki\u00a0whose term is coming to an end.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, February 25, Ruto took Odinga to Uganda to lobby President Yoweri Museveni for Uganda\u2019s support signaling the onset of Kenya\u2019s campaign for polls set for 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Following Ruto\u2019s meeting with Museveni at his Kisozi country home to discuss Kenya\u2019s candidature, Odinga said he had secured the backing of the Ugandan leader.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 2 \u2014 National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula has said the government is supporting Raila Odinga\u2019s bid for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship because he is capable and not to remove him from the local political scene.
