{"id":8080,"date":"2024-03-02T14:03:54","date_gmt":"2024-03-02T14:03:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/index.php\/2024\/03\/02\/governors-kahiga-irungu-caution-ruto-over-raila-infiltration\/"},"modified":"2024-03-02T14:03:54","modified_gmt":"2024-03-02T14:03:54","slug":"governors-kahiga-irungu-caution-ruto-over-raila-infiltration","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/governors-kahiga-irungu-caution-ruto-over-raila-infiltration\/","title":{"rendered":"Governors Kahiga, Irungu caution Ruto over Raila \u2018infiltration\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>NYERI, Kenya, Mar 2 \u2014 A section of leaders from Nyeri and Laikipia counties have cautioned President William Ruto to tread carefully while dealing with opposition leader Raila Odinga following the government\u2019s decision to front him for AU Commission Chairperson.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Speaking on Saturday at a burial in Gitero, Nyeri Town constituency, Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga and his Laikipia counterpart Joshua Irungu expressed concern that Odinga could \u201cinfiltrate\u201d government through his new-found rapprochement with President Ruto.<\/p>\n<p>Laikipia Senator John Kinyua and Woman Representative Jane Kagiri echoed the sentiments. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe (Ruto) must be careful. We have seen in the past [Raila] utilizing such an opportunity to infiltrate Moi, Kibaki, and Uhuru government and wrecking the boat from within,\u201d Kahiga said referring to the 2018 handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Odinga, and similar deals with previous regimes.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u2018The mountain is watching\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>Kahiga said the electorate, in Mt Kenya, was monitoring the situation closely.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the past, we have seen how the then deputy and now president William Ruto was treated on entry of Odinga in Uhuru\u2019s administration we would not like a similar scenario to happen to our son,\u201d Kahiga said.<\/p>\n<p>Irungu termed Odinga as a crafty politician. He said Odinga cannot be trusted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRuto should deal with Odinga in a situation where one has to sleep with one eye closed while the other open since he can start something fishy anytime,\u201d said Irungu.<\/p>\n<p>Laikipia East lawmaker Mwangi Kiunjuri however expressed a contrary opinion saying Ruto\u2019s backing of Odinga\u2019s AU Commission bid was nothing to worry about.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMt Kenya region should have no reason to worry even if Odinga is accommodated in the government,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Kiunjuri dismissed concerns over the possible destabilization of the region\u2019s interest hinting at Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua\u2019s assertion of shareholding in government.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe issue of shares will not only affect the Kikuyus; it will [affect] everybody hence there is no need to worry,\u201d he said.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NYERI, Kenya, Mar 2 \u2014 A section of leaders from Nyeri and Laikipia counties have cautioned President William Ruto to tread carefully while dealing with opposition leader Raila Odinga following the government\u2019s decision to front him for AU Commission Chairperson.
