{"id":8225,"date":"2024-03-03T08:03:39","date_gmt":"2024-03-03T08:03:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/index.php\/2024\/03\/03\/archers-post-ocs-praised-for-turning-down-sh80000-bribe-offer\/"},"modified":"2024-03-03T08:03:39","modified_gmt":"2024-03-03T08:03:39","slug":"archers-post-ocs-praised-for-turning-down-sh80000-bribe-offer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/archers-post-ocs-praised-for-turning-down-sh80000-bribe-offer\/","title":{"rendered":"Archers Post OCS praised for turning down Sh80,000 bribe offer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 2 \u2014 An attempt to bribe a senior security official in Samburu to secure the release of a robbery with violence suspect was foiled on Saturday after the officer in question rejected the offer.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) disclosed Saturday that the OCS for Archers Post Police station, Chief Inspector Andrew Nyabicha rejected a monetary offer of Sh80,000 given to him by three individuals to facilitate the release of a suspect accused of robbing Ethiopian nationals he had trafficked into the country. <\/p>\n<p>A good Samaritan rescued the foreigners who entered the country illegally after the suspect abandoned them in a thicket after robbing them. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen the bribe attempt was made, the OCS immediately notified the EACC and facilitated the arrest of the individuals, including his driver, who had been used as a link to reach the OCS,\u201d read a police report obtained by Capital News.<\/p>\n<p>The police identified suspects who tried to bribe the OCS  as George Guyo, Hassan Sheikh Mohamed, and Mohamed Maalim Abass. <\/p>\n<p>EACC Upper Eastern Regional Office in Isiolo processed the three and released them on bail pending arraignment after the completion of the investigation process. <\/p>\n<p>The anti-graft agency praised the senior police officer for exercising integrity at a time when some police officers have [been] accused of engaging in criminal activities including working in cahoots with criminal elements.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEACC commends the OCS for the exemplary action of refusing to compromise national security at the altar of greed and personal interest,\u201d the anti-graft agency said. <\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Rogue police officers <\/h2>\n<p>The development came hot on the heels of a separate case in Nairobi, where the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detained four police officers in connection with human trafficking. <\/p>\n<p>The operation, led by the DCI\u2019s Transnational Organized Crime Unit (TOCU) and supported by officers from Githurai, uncovered 37 Ethiopian nationals in a house in the Mwihoko area of Kayole on February 21. <\/p>\n<p>DCI said it found the individuals in distressing conditions, sleeping on the floor inside the premises. <\/p>\n<p>DCI reported finding two Kenyans armed with Beretta and Ceska pistols with twelve and fifteen rounds of ammunition who it later identified as police officers.<\/p>\n<p>Upon interrogation, the officers claimed they were on an ambush for the same group of individuals.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 2 \u2014 An attempt to bribe a senior security official in Samburu to secure the release of a robbery with violence suspect was foiled on Saturday after the officer in question rejected the offer.
