{"id":83033,"date":"2024-08-25T22:05:55","date_gmt":"2024-08-25T22:05:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/index.php\/2024\/08\/25\/president-ruto-defends-new-university-funding-model\/"},"modified":"2024-08-25T22:05:55","modified_gmt":"2024-08-25T22:05:55","slug":"president-ruto-defends-new-university-funding-model","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/president-ruto-defends-new-university-funding-model\/","title":{"rendered":"President Ruto defends new University funding model"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>President William Ruto has defended the new university funding model saying it has been tested and proven to work.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Speaking during a Town hall meeting with a section of university students at KICC in Nairobi, the president noted that it is the best model to take the country\u2019s education quality to the next level.<\/p>\n<p>He defended the banding saying it has been used for years and that those mistakenly placed in wrong bands have a chance to appeal.<\/p>\n<p>According to President Ruto, the government has availed additional resources for both HELB and scholarships for students.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have taken the amount we are funding our universities from an average of Sh45B to Sh82B every year, that\u2019s the quantum of additional resources we are making available for HELB, scholarships.\u201d He said.<\/p>\n<p>He said the Kenya Kwanza administration has hired 56,000 additional teachers in the last two years adding that that\u2019s the reason why the government is introducing the student centered funding model to sort out the challenges being experienced in the universities.<\/p>\n<p>The president stressed that Kenya cannot continue having an education system that shuts out millions of the children of the poor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnly 10pc of children from vulnerable families make it to university, it\u2019s serious and is something that depresses me.
