The Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) in Kiambu County has joined other teachers across the country in vowing not to return to school until their demands are met by the government.<\/p>\n
Led by the Kiambu County KUPPET Chairperson, Rose Kiiru, the teachers have expressed concerns over the ongoing challenges in Junior Secondary School (JSS) classes.<\/p>\n
They highlighted the severe shortage of teachers and the burden placed on unqualified educators to teach subjects outside their expertise.<\/p>\n
The union suggested that JSS classes should be moved to high schools, where there are more teachers and better resources to meet the students\u2019 needs.<\/p>\n
In addition, the union has criticized the employment of teachers on a contract basis, stating that it violates the terms of their agreement.<\/p>\n
They demanded the permanent employment of 130,000 teachers, insisting that they will not return to the classroom until this issue is resolved.<\/p>\n
Kiiru warned that education in high schools will continue to suffer if the government does not fulfil its promises, with teachers refusing to resume their duties until their grievances are addressed.<\/p>\n
