{"id":83651,"date":"2024-08-27T08:07:39","date_gmt":"2024-08-27T08:07:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/index.php\/2024\/08\/27\/nigel-clarke-appointed-imf-deputy-managing-director\/"},"modified":"2024-08-27T08:07:39","modified_gmt":"2024-08-27T08:07:39","slug":"nigel-clarke-appointed-imf-deputy-managing-director","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/nigel-clarke-appointed-imf-deputy-managing-director\/","title":{"rendered":"Nigel Clarke appointed IMF deputy managing director"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has announced the appointed of Jamaica\u2019s finance minister Nigel Clarke as its deputy managing director.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Clarke whose appointment is effective October 31, 2024 takes over from Liberian economist Antoinette Sayeh who is scheduled to step down beginning September 1, 2024.<\/p>\n<p>IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva made the announcement to the lender\u2019s executive board to tap Clarke to the position.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMr. Clarke is an exceptional public servant and policymaker, with proven leadership in institution building and economic crisis management, who has stewarded his country\u2019s economy to a stronger and more sustainable position,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Clarke has been Jamaica\u2019s Minister of Finance and the Public Service, and a Member of Parliament, since March 2018.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince 2016, he has been the IMF\u2019s chief counterpart on successive and historically successful programs for Jamaica, including an Extended Fund Facility, a precautionary Stand-By Arrangement, and most recently a Precautionary Liquidity Line plus Resilience and Sustainability Facility, leaving the country with robust economic fundamentals.
