Thika High School has received 67 pairs of medical eyeglasses to assist students suffering from various sight challenges<\/p>\n
During an event held at the school\u2019s hall, the eye glasses were distributed to the 67 students who had undergone eye tests weeks ago.<\/p>\n
The tests, which were undertaken by medical practitioners in collaboration with Pastor Dorcas Rigathi\u2019s Boy Child Program.<\/p>\n
Pastor Dorcas made a promise to deliver the eye glasses on 25th May, 2024 when she attended the school\u2019s prize giving day as the chief guest.<\/p>\n
During the eyeglasses distribution exercise, a talk was held around the topic of addictions and also career choice and progression.<\/p>\n
Lewis Mutugi of the Kenya Counselling Psychological Association warned the students about the dangers of alcohol, drugs and psychoactive substances to their overall health.<\/p>\n
He expressed concern that recruitment into a life of consuming alcohol and drugs was starting very early in life. \u201cBy the time a student is in form three, they have already experimented with one or two drugs,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The school\u2019s chaplain, Rev. Stephen Kabuba said the preventive program was critical in reaching the youth at a young age.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is the generation that can bring change, and such programs that show them that their leaders and the society cares are good; not just condemning their actions without giving them direction,\u201d said Rev Kabuba.<\/p>\n
Present was also the school\u2019s Chief Principal Julius Muraya who appreciated the donation of eye glasses, which he said would go towards the improved performance of the school.<\/p>\n
The sight challenges included blurry sight, short sightedness, and long sightedness.<\/p>\n
Pastor Dorcas has been engaging schools, colleges, TVETs, and universities on a Preventive Program against Alcohol, Drug, and Substance Abuse to advocate to pupils and students in their formative years to lead a drug-free and alcohol-free life.<\/p>\n
