BEIJING, China, Sep 19 \u2014 Beijing announced fresh sanctions on Wednesday against nine United States enterprises in the military-industrial sector and warned that Washington\u2019s use of arms to support \u201cTaiwan independence\u201d will only backfire.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The sanctions came after the US Department of Defense\u2019s Defense Security Cooperation Agency confirmed on Tuesday that the US State Department had approved a $228 million arms sale to the Taiwan region.<\/p>\n

The sale covers the return, repair and reshipment of spare parts and other equipment essential for military aircraft.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday, the Foreign Ministry issued a statement saying that the move \u201cseriously violated the one-China principle and the three China-US joint communiques, seriously interfered in China\u2019s internal affairs, and seriously undermined China\u2019s sovereignty and territorial integrity\u201d.<\/p>\n

The nine sanctioned US companies are: Sierra Nevada Corp; Stick Rudder Enterprises; Cubic Corp; S3 AeroDefense; TCOM Limited Partnership; TextOre; Planate Management Group; ACT1 Federal; and Exovera.<\/p>\n

Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said the US arms sales to China\u2019s Taiwan region are \u201csending a wrong signal\u201d to \u201cTaiwan independence \u201cseparatist forces.<\/p>\n

\u201cChina strongly condemns and resolutely opposes it, and has lodged solemn representations to the US side,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The biggest threat to peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and the greatest damage to the status quo in the Taiwan Strait comes from the separatist activities of \u201cTaiwan independence\u201d forces and the connivance and support by external forces led by the US, he said.<\/p>\n

\u2018Independence by force\u2019<\/h2>\n

The Democratic Progressive Party authorities\u2019 attempt to \u201cseek independence by force\u201d and the US persistence in \u201cassisting independence by force\u201d will surely backfire, reap its own consequences, and will only end in failure, he added.<\/p>\n

Beijing\u2019s sanctions include the freezing of the nine companies\u2019 \u201cmovable and immovable property and other kinds of property\u201d in China, as well as a ban on organizations and individuals in China from engaging in transactions and cooperation with these companies.<\/p>\n

The Foreign Ministry said the decision will take effect on Wednesday and is based on Articles 3, 4, 6,9 and 15 of China\u2019s Anti-Foreign Sanctions Law.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Taiwan question is at the core of China\u2019s core interests and is the first uncrossable red line in China-US relations,\u201d the spokesman said.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo one should underestimate China\u2019s resolute will and strong capability to oppose \u2018Taiwan independence\u2019 and defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
