{"id":9369,"date":"2024-03-06T11:03:15","date_gmt":"2024-03-06T11:03:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/index.php\/2024\/03\/06\/any-establishment-found-engaging-in-shisha-trade-will-be-shut-cs-kindiki\/"},"modified":"2024-03-06T11:03:15","modified_gmt":"2024-03-06T11:03:15","slug":"any-establishment-found-engaging-in-shisha-trade-will-be-shut-cs-kindiki","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/any-establishment-found-engaging-in-shisha-trade-will-be-shut-cs-kindiki\/","title":{"rendered":"Any establishment found engaging in shisha trade will be shut: CS Kindiki"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 6 \u2013 The government has warned that any establishment found engaging in the importation, manufacture, sale, use, advertisement, promotion, or distribution of shisha will be shut.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Interior Secretary Kithure Kindiki made this announcement on Wednesday as part of new directives aimed at combating alcohol and drug abuse in the country.<\/p>\n<p>He emphasized that the sale of shisha has been outlawed nationwide and cautioned that both individuals and establishments found engaging in such activities will face legal consequences.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCounty security teams are required to enforce this prescription without fail,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) has recently intensified its efforts to crack down on several establishments across major cities in the country in order to enforce the ban.<\/p>\n<p>In the past three days alone, authorities have apprehended 13 individuals in connection with the shisha trade after conducting raids on various entertainment venues in Nairobi.<\/p>\n<p>A similar operation in Nyali, Mombasa, on January 14 led to the arrest of over 45 people associated with shisha dens.<\/p>\n<p>The Public Health Act (Control of Shisha Smoking Rules, 2017) provides that: \u201cNo person shall import, manufacture, sell, offer for sale, use, advertise, promote, or distribute Shisha in Kenya.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It also says: \u201cNo person shall allow, promote, facilitate, or encourage, or do anything to allow, promote, facilitate, or encourage Shisha smoking in Kenya.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kenya implemented a comprehensive ban on Shisha in 2017, becoming the fourth country in East Africa to prohibit Shisha, after Uganda, Tanzania, and Rwanda.<\/p>\n<p>`<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 6 \u2013 The government has warned that any establishment found engaging in the importation, manufacture, sale, use, advertisement, promotion, or distribution of shisha will be shut.
